추상적 조형으로 표현한 일상 속 발견
나의 작업은 일상에 익숙한 사물들을 낯선 시선으로 다시 바라보는 데서 출발한다. 사물을 감각하는 시선은 마치 탐험가처럼 세상의 표면을 걷으며, 무심히 지나쳤던 것들 속에서 새로운 의미를 발견한다. 그러나 나는 그 발견물을 단순히 묘사하지는 않았다. 현실의 구체적 형상을 벗겨내고, 색과 면, 선 등으로 순수한 조형 언어로 재해석한다.
화면은 하나의 평면이자, 동시에 ‘감각의 중첩처럼 시선을 붙드는 지각의 장(場)’이 된다. 그 안에서 불필요한 감정과 장식을 제거되고, 절제된 추상적 형태들이 오히려 더 풍부한 서사를 품는다. 나에게 화면은 혼의 표현을 담아낸 그릇이며, 빛과 시간에 따라 호흡하며 살아있는 존재이다.
햇살이 바뀌며 그림자가 흔들리듯, 나의 추상적 조형 역시 자연의 리듬 속에서 끊임없이 변주된다. 나의 작업은 그렇게, 일상의 풍경 속에 숨어있는 조형의 질서와 생명의 리듬을 드러내려는 탐구의 과정이다.

Discovery in the Everyday Expressed through Abstract Form
My work starts with looking at familiar everyday objects again with a strange perspective. The gaze that senses objects wanders over the surface of the world like an explorer, discovering new meanings in things that were overlooked. However, I did not merely describe what I found. I reinterpret the concrete forms of reality into pure formative language using color, plane, and line.
The canvas is a single plane, and at the same time, it becomes a 'field of perception' that captures the gaze, like a 'superimposition of senses.' Within it, unnecessary emotions and decorations are removed, and restrained abstract forms surprisingly hold a richer narrative. To me, the canvas is a vessel that contains the expression of the soul, a living entity that breathes according to light and time.
Just as shadows sway when the sunlight changes, my abstract forms are also constantly being played out in the rhythm of nature. My work is thus a process of exploration to reveal the formative order and the rhythm of life hidden within everyday scenes.

초기에는 사실묘사에 치중했다. 사실주의 작업은, 자연의 실체를 파악하고 이해하는 데 필수적인 과정이었다. 그 과정을 통해 세상, 자연의 신비과정을 깨닫게 된다. 몽상 하나하나가 가지고 있는 고유 형태 및 색채 그리고 아름다움에 감동되는 것이다. 어쩌면 그가 자연주의를 표방하면서도 인상주의에 가까운 형식으로 전환하게 된 것도 자연에 대한 감동을 빠르게 표현하고 싶은 욕구 때문인지도 모른다. 어쩌면 풍경화에 전념해 온 것도 자연에 대한 감동 및 표현 욕구를 물리치기 쉽지 않았기 때문이리라 최근에는 여전히 한국의 사계절을 비롯하여 해외여행의 인상을 감각적이면서도 빠른 필치로 표현한다. 구체적인 형태보다는 자연과 마주한 순간의 미적 감흥을 표현하는데 주력한다. 그러기에 밝고 화사한 색채를 선호하게 되고 붓의 움직임은 감각적이다. 따라서 세부보다는 전체상에서 파악되는 조형적인 아름다움을 즐기고자 한다. - 신항섭 (미술평론가)

In the beginning, I focused on realistic depiction. The work of realism was an essential process for grasping and understanding the substance of nature. Through that process, I come to realize the mysteries of the world and nature. I am moved by the unique form, color, and beauty that each one of my imaginations holds. Perhaps the reason why he transitioned to a form close to Impressionism while advocating for Naturalism is the desire to quickly express the emotion toward nature. Perhaps the reason I've devoted myself to landscape painting is that it was not easy to suppress the emotion and desire to express nature. Recently, I still express the impressions of overseas travel, as well as the four seasons of Korea, with a sense of feeling and a quick brushstroke. I focus on expressing the aesthetic inspiration of the moment when facing nature rather than concrete forms. Therefore, I prefer bright and vibrant colors, and the movement of the brush is sensuous.
